The unique power of water, salt and electricity working together in one alcohol-free, natural surface, environmental disinfectant.

It is 100 times more efficient at killing germs than chlorine bleach, yet without the harmful effects of conventional bleach.

Hypochlorous acid is a powerful oxidant and is over 100 times more efficient at killing germs than chlorine bleach, yet without the harmful effects of conventional bleach.

Globally proven to kill bacteria, spores and viruses in symbiosis with the human body’s infection-fighting systems. The technological process that generates Optizan uses a mixture of water and salt to form a saline solution, which is passed through a specially designed electrolytic cell in order to modify its functional properties without adding any other reagents. Recent research has focused on the use of hypochlorous acid for disinfection in food and food processing facilities. Research has also been done on poultry farms, water treatment and disinfection, and healthcare related applications such as wound care and equipment sterilisation. In broader commercial settings, hypochlorous acid may be used in meat processing, fish processing, market gardening and veterinary applications.

Key scientific facts:

  • pH Neutral
  • Broad spectrum disinfectant and antiseptic
  • In harmony with the body’s white blood cells
  • Safe for food preparation areas
How does Optizan work?

Microbes need a stable energy supply to survive.  Electro-Chemical Activation (ECA) the process used to create OPTIZAN destabilizes this supply and creates an environment in which microbes cannot survive. Optizan is extremely effective at eliminating all pathogens and food spoilage microbes including spores.

Directions for use

Effective and long lasting

Many microorganisms develop a tolerance or resistance against conventional chemical sanitation products, which could be of concern within a healthcare environment. It is reassuring to know that it has been repeatedly shown that microorganisms cannot build up a tolerance to the core components of OPTIZAN which are classed as non- toxic and biodegradable under EU guidelines. This adds longevity to the protection of that Optizan offers to people and the environment.

Certified and Safe

At the core of Optizan is a powerful antimicrobial and disinfecting solution which conforms to the European Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, Regulation (EU) No 528/2012) and is listed with the ECHA. It also holds NSF/ANSI 61 certification, which ensures its regulatory passport is international. McElwaine Technical is formally listed by the European Chemicals Handling Agency as an approved supplier of hypochlorous acid.

Environmentally Friendly

OPTIZAN is ideal for providing ongoing and consistent disinfection within any environment. At the most demanding level, OPTIZAN meets the demands of the stringent healthcare sector. The US FDA has issued multiple approvals for the use of hypochlorous acid in applications ranging from food hygiene to wound care and dental treatment.
